What Is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy uses a powerful light to bring pigmentations in your skin to the surface, where they are then eliminated. How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Your treatment regime will depend on your skin type, the severity of skin damage, and the type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage). Most people notice clearer, more even skin after their first photofacial session; multiple treatment sessions provide even better results!

How Soon Will I See Results?

Patients typically notice a difference just a few days after the first session. Your skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

During a single session of light treatment, there will be a bright flash of light that feels like a light elastic sensation (like a rubber band). Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and don't usually last more than an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours, you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards, the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone and skin texture. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a colour change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days. Treatment time of a session usually lasts between 15 minutes - 45 minutes depending on the area treated.

What Steps Should I Take Before The Procedure?

We recommend that you avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

Side effects are uncommon and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. You may be sensitive to sunlight immediately after skin treatment, so we strongly suggest avoiding direct sunlight and tanning. We also recommend that you treat the skin as you would if it were sunburnt, avoiding the use of harsh or abrasive products.
